Abstract The Pont-de-Longues site was the subject of a rescue dig after being partially destroyed, deliberately, by its owner in 1997. This is merely a preliminary presentation of the investigations, which should continue shortly. The site occupies a privileged geographical location, beside the Allier river in a sector which is rich in resources, in particular stone. There are two occupation levels, dated to the very late Magdalenian, of which one at least is completely undisturbed. The remarkably abundant remains of large mammals (horse, reindeer, bovines) and the very moderate presence of other types of remains suggests that the site should perhaps be considered as a place for slaughtering and butchering animals.
